Sew It

So, I’ve been on a bit of a “waste-less, reuse more” kick lately.  It all started when I got sick of buying and carrying cases of water from my car to my apartment (I’m not lazy y’all, it’s a pretty long hallway). I bought a CamelBak Eddy (which is my absolute favorite bottle) and have never looked back on buying water.  This sort of had a snowball effect and I started searching for more things in my daily routine that I could swap for a reusable option.  One of the next things that needed to go was the big drawer full of plastic zipper bags.  I mean how inefficient is it to use a zipper bag for one, maybe two uses and then toss it?  Ridiculous, if you ask me.  I decided to search the blogosphere for an alternative to the zipper bag, and was so elated when I found this tutorial.  I decided to put my sewing skills to use and try and make my own.  Y’all it was wayyy easier than I could have imagined! And I’ll be honest, I am a terrible seamstress.  I made a set of four and plan on making a few more.  I use these baggies daily.  I can throw in my snacks for class, pack them in my bag, and throw them in the wash when I get home. They’re not meant for wet items like fruit, but work great for dry snacks and sandwiches. This week I was so excited when my friends commented on how cute they were!

I Can’t Help Dreaming of…

I can’t help dreaming of a life on a farm. I don’t if it’s the allure of living on a remote piece of land, the simplicity of a quaint farm house, or the possibilities of self-sufficient living, but I’ve been finding myself day dreaming (ok, may all-day dreaming is more like it) of living in the country.  Any by the looks of these farm houses, can you blame me?

Life Lately, continued

Hellooooo! To all of you who have been patient with my sporadic absences from this blog, I appreciate you more than you know! I am hoping to start posting pretty regularly.  I am back in business in terms of technology.  My computer arrived yesterday afternoon, and I have been trying to catch up on school work ever since! But, I couldn’t wait any longer to get back on the blog! So, here’s a photo recap of my life lately:

Currently, I’m back at school finishing up my Master’s.  I’ll graduate this May and cannot wait to be finished!! Luckily, I had some free time toward the end of my internship and was able to try out some new recipes and craft a few things that I am super excited to share with you!  I think it’s about time to take a break from the busy day and go outside to enjoy this beautiful Spring day!

Google Reader and Life Lately

Hi guys!! So there’s a rumor going on that Google Reader is about to get nixed from the list of applications offered by Google. If you use the app to follow your favorite blogs, switch over to BlogLovin. It’s an easy to use app that allows you to keep up with all of your favorite reads! Plus, it can be added to FlipBook for super convenient reading on your iPad or iPhone.

Here’s a quick update on what’s been going on in my neck of the woods. After spending the first ten weeks of the year interning in Houston, I am enjoying my first week back in Louisiana! Only 8 more weeks until I graduate with my Master’s degree!! (Yes, I have a countdown- there’s no shame in my game). Right around the holidays I encountered a computer fatality (I’ve been in mourning for quite a while) and have been unable to update the blog since my access is limited to my iPad. The good news is I finally splurged on a new computer and it just shipped last night! I can’t wait to actually be able to post with pictures and links! Check back towards the end of next week for more posts and a more detailed Life Lately.

Happy New Year y’all!! I don’t know about you, but I’m sorta thrilled that it’s 2013 (mostly because 13 is my favorite number). 2012 was a pretty eventful year (running a half-marathon, graduating from college, moving to Texas for an internship, starting grad school, and starting CrossFit) and 2013 is poised to be even MORE eventful! I’m not really into making New Year resolutions, I’m more of an evaluate-my-goals-and-adjust-as-needed kinda gal. So later this week I’ll devote some time to see about that. Otherwise, I’ve found a neat little idea on Pinterest that I can’t wait to share with y’all- and the best part- it’s sooo simple! Take a pretty container of some sort (I picked a Ball mason jar- surprised, right?) and devote it to storing memories from the year. When something exciting/happy/memorable happens, jot it down and place in container. On New Years Eve, read all those notes and reminisce on the past year. I really, really look forward to opening up my jar next year! A few of my friends are also starting their own memory jars, how fun would it be to share all of those memories together? So tell me, what are y’all doing to start the New Year?
